The Geneva Historical Society is planning a one-day trip to the Bethel Woods Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, October 9, 2015. The Bethel Woods Center is a non-profit performing arts center and museum located at the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. The 15,000 seat amphitheater presents a wide variety of musical genres and performers. The Museum at Bethel Woods, which opened to the public in 2008, is housed in a beautiful LEED-certified green building, set back from the top of the Woodstock festival hillside. The Museum's main exhibit, Woodstock and the Sixties is an immersive, multi-media experience that combines film, music, interactive displays, artifacts, and personal narratives to tell the story of the unique experience of the Woodstock festival and its significance as a culminating event of a decade of sweeping cultural change. Temporary exhibits are: Threads: Connecting '60s and Modern Rock Wear, featuring over 40 vintage outfits drawn from the personal collection of designer, musician, and vintage clothing collector, Andy Hilfiger, and Written In Stone: Sculpture by Harry Gordon.
The price for the trip is $75 and includes motorcoach transportation, a guided tour of the grounds at Bethel Woods, admission to the Bethel Woods Museum and a boxed lunch. Dinner will be available at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant at your own expense on the return trip.
The bus will leave from the Geneva History Museum at 8 AM and return to Geneva around 9:00 PM. Parking is available on street or in the Trinity Episcopal Church lot, south of the church. A minimum number of participants are required for the trip to run and seating is limited. Make your reservation as soon as possible by calling the Geneva Historical Society at 315-789-5151.
