Sanborn maps are maps of U.S. cities and towns that were initially created to estimate fire insurance liabilities. The maps include detailed town and building information for approximately 12,000 U.S. towns and cities from 1866 to 2007. The Sanborn maps themselves are large-scale lithographed street plans that are invaluable resources for preservation and restoration efforts.
Peter Evans has been a longtime advocate of historic preservation working on projects with the Landmark Society of Western New York and as a member and president of Williamson-Pultneyville Historical Society. As a research engineer with the Eastman Kodak Company before retirement, he worked on projects with major historical organizations including the Library of Congress, Smithsonian, National Geographic and the White House Archives.Date and Time
