The maps include detailed town and building information for approximately 12\,000 U.S. towns and cities from 1866 to 2007. The Sanborn maps themselves are large-scale lithographed street plans that are invaluable resources for preservation and restoration efforts.\n Peter Evans has been a longtime advocate of historic preservation working on projects with the Landmark Society of Western New York and as a member and president of Williamson-Pultneyville Historical Society. As a research engineer with the Eastman Kodak Company before retirement\, he worked on projects with major historical organizations including the Library of Congress\, Smithsonian\, National Geographic and the White House Archives.
