The Geneva Historical Society spring lecture series kicks off on Wednesday, March 18 at 7:30pm with the presentation "The History of Mormonism in Western New York," by Jonathan Porschet. This program focuses on the history of the only religion founded in our own back yard, Mormonism. Begun in Fayette in 1830 with six original members, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has grown to more than 13 million members worldwide. While Utah is the state most often associated with the church, sites in New York like Hill Cumorah and the Peter Whitmer Farm, are crucial to the story of its founding. This lecture will look at the roots of the church and its early members in the Finger Lakes region.
