American Landmark Festivals in conjunction with the Smith Opera House present international pianist/composer Roger Steptoe playing Beethovens "G Major Sonata, Op. 14," Brahms "Intermezzi, Op. 117," excerpts from Hindemiths "Ludus Tonalis"and rarely heard works by British composers, Frank Bridge, Ralph Vaughan Williams and John Rangel.
Born in Great Britain,Roger Steptoe is an accomplished pianist with a repertoire embracing classical and contemporary works. In addition to solo recitals, he has worked extensively as a chamber musician and with singers. Numerous concerts have taken him throughout the UK and Europe. He has a global reputation for promoting little-know British piano works, making the first recording of Sir William Waltons 1918-19 "Piano Quartet" and an all-Vaughan Williams album that included the first recording of the "Four Last Songs" with poems by Ursula Vaughan Williams. Steptoe made his solo debut at Wigmore Hall in 1982 and his New York debut in 1991, when he presented his work to student composers at the Juilliard School. As part of his 50thbirthday celebration in 2003, he made his Paris debut at the Salle Cortot in a special recital organized by LEnvol. He was invited to the US in February, 2007 for recitals in New York City and Geneva, NY at the Smith Opera House. During this period he was also guest artist at the University of Texas San Antonio.
