"Enchanted" is a full-blown musical that commutes between Disney's patented cartoon universe and the real world with cleverness and grace. The screening is part of The Smith's annual 'Winter Brrreak" film series during area schools' scheduled February recess, it will also be shown as a double feature with "The Golden Compass" at noon on February 20.
"Enchanted" combines traditional animation with live-action comedy and computer-generated imagery. It's a high-wire act done with glass slippers: a move too far in any direction could easily have toppled the entire production.
"Enchanted" gently makes fun of Disney tradition while upholding it at the same time. There are no cheap or vulgar jokes, and sentiment never turns to treacle.
"Enchanted" is that rare comedy that will appeal to the whole family, as it indulges in all the dreams of fairy-tale romance while making a few 21st-century adjustments. Itis rated PG and has a running time of one hour, 47 minutes.
In partnership with Reality Check,a New York-based organization created by teens to expose the tobacco industry's efforts to encourage smoking, the matinee on Tuesday, February 19 is free of charge to all patrons.
