On Tuesday, February 17, 2015 the Geneva Historical Society and The Smith Center for the Arts will show a screening of the comic thriller Arsenic and Old Lace, a film that played at the Smith in October 1944 when it was a Schine’s Theater. The story follows drama critic Mortimer Brewster who’s just married the girl-next-door, Elaine Harper. When the newlyweds return to their respective family homes on Halloween to deliver the news, Brewster finds a corpse hidden in a window seat. With his eccentric aunts, disturbed uncle, and homicidal brother, he starts to realize that his family is even crazier than he thought. Directed by Frank Capra, it stars Cary Grant, Priscilla Lane, Peter Lorre, and Raymond Massey. The film begins at 7:30 p.m. Before the show there will be displays and posters from the 1940s in the lobby, and jazz band Cool Club will play music of the era. Admission is just 50 cents!
