The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes will meet on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Geneva Historical Society, 543 S. Main Street, Geneva. Doug Nicot will present a program called A Shave and a Haircut-2 Bits: Barber & Shaving Memorabilia. All are welcome and admission is free.
Doug Nicot is an advanced barber/shaving memorabilia collector and serves on the board of the National Shaving Mug Collectors Association. The program will cover history, numerous related inventions, early photos, shaving mugs, razors, shaving/bleeding bowls, blade banks, barber bottles, and some interesting related stories. A note of local interest - the largest manufacturer of straight razors in the United States was Geneva Cutlery.
Nicot is an international dealer in barber/shaving memorabilia with over 35 years in the field. He is currently writing catalog descriptions for a nationally known auction house that is selling one of the largest occupational shaving mug collections known.
Those attending are welcome to bring barber/shaving related items for Nicot to examine and share information he might have, including current values in today's market. Refreshments will be served following the program.
