The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes will meet on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Janet Russell will present a program on Mocha Ware.
First made in England in the 1700s, mocha ware is slip-decorated utilitarian pottery that has become very collectible, partly because many items didn?t survive everyday use. The name ?mocha ware? derives from mukha stone, a type of moss agate from Yemen. The stone has natural striations similar to mocha ware?s seaweed-like designs. Russell will discuss these dendritic patterns and other kinds of slip decoration that mocha ware includes.
The meeting will take place at the Geneva Historical Society, 543 S. Main Street, Geneva. The public is welcome, there is no admission charge and refreshments will be served. Please use the side door at the bottom of the driveway on the north side of the museum.
