SUMMARY:The War of 1812: Songs and Stories from New York and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:In this lecture/concert\, musician Dave Ruch presents a fascinating portrait of the War of 1812 through the songs and stories of the people themselves. Ruch has dug deeply into archival recordings\, diaries\, old newspapers and other historical manuscripts to unearth a wealth of rarely-heard music which\, alongside some of the classics from the war\, offers a rounded and fascinating picture of this "second war of independence." Special emphasis is given to New York State's important role in the conflict.\n\n	Dave Ruch is a professional performer and teaching artist based in Buffalo\, New York\, who sings and plays music for all ages on an intriguing assortment of instruments including mandolin\, banjo\, guitar\, jaw harp\, bones\, spoons and more.\n\n	This program\, which is free and open to the public\, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities' Speakers in the Humanities program. The program will be at the Geneva Historical Society at 543 South Main Street in Geneva\, NY. For more information call the Geneva Historical Society at 315-789-5151.
