SUMMARY:''New Year's Eve Bash'' at the Smith Opera House
DESCRIPTION:Ring in the new year with non-stop music at the Smith Opera House when New Day Productions presents its "New Year's Eve Bash\," December 31. National recording artists John Brown's Body\, Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad and Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets performing on the main stage\, are joined by local favorites Nestor and El Kabong on "satellite" stages set up throughout the theatre\, creating an energetic evening of continuous live entertainment. John Brown's Body is in the midst of its tenth year of performing\, supporting its latest studio album\, "Pressure Points" (Easy Star Records). The seven-member group (from Ithaca\, NY and Boston) has developed a strong reputation for it's originality and superb\, energetic live show during its ten-year career. The trademark JBB sound evolved out of the early 90's rock and reggae outfit Tribulations\, and developed into a 21st century band fusing socially conscious lyrics with a vintage roots sound epitomized in the use of B3 organ\, a horn section\, torque heavy drum and bass\, four part vocal harmony\, and a general warm analog production sound that recalls Reggae's 1970s heyday. Some question the band's origins in the Northeast (and not Jamaica)\, but there is no roots Reggae band out there better than JBB. Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad plays relentless roots reggae and experimental dub. Giant Panda's explosive live show and impeccable musicianship are a force to be reckoned with. Consistently rewarding weekly events hosted by GPGDS have helped the band earn a strong following. Giant Panda continues to put on concerts in their hometown of Rochester\, NY. Giant Panda is honored to have shared bills with Reggae greats The Wailers\, The Meditations\, Mad Professor\, and King Yellowman. Having distinguished themselves as one of the best roots bands in North America and some of the best songwriters in the Reggae genre\, Giant Panda is also a constantly evolving independent unit of friends\, family\, & truth seekers\, committed to connecting great people with great music. Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets deliver socially conscious\, upbeat reggae and ska with a jam band flavor\, and has built a loyal fan base by playing blistering shows throughout the Northeast U.S. over the past 15 years. The band builds on a foundation of solid island rhythms and fearsome fretwork\, and then tops it off with powerful lyrics of love\, peace and solidarity. Dr. Jah further extends reggae into new directions by adding elements from soca and psychedelia. Whenever he appears on stage\, Nestor blows away crowds with his unique musical ability known as "beatboxing." With styles from R&B to hip hop\, reggae to classic rock\, be ready to move in amazement when you hear the eclectic rhythms & sounds produced by one man's mouth. Geneva's El Kabong\, comprised of Laura Black\, James Eddington\, Aaron Holland\, and Zachary Schoonover\, performs a unique fusion of rock\, jazz and world beat grooves. Blending original compositions with lyrical cover interpretations\, the young band played at The Smith's Capitol Steps Champagne Reception in September and is the house band at Garcia's Mexican Restaurant in Geneva. VIP ticket-holders receive preferred seating and private viewing area\, a limited-edition event poster\, separate wash rooms\, and an exclusive bar with complimentary hors d'oeuvres.
